Grasshopper

Grasshopper

More than 100 million years ago, grasshoppers were jumping with their built-in catapult systems. While the specifics of its jumping vary according to species, size and sex, a grasshopper can typically jump one yard--about 20 times its body length--and reach close to 10 inches in height. This feat compares to a 6-foot tall human leaping a distance of 120 feet, which, as of June 2010, is more than four times the distance of the men's world record in the long jump.
